High Impact Interventions for Teaching Assistants
This course will be online:-
- Presenters are presenting via webcam, accompanied by slides and activities
- Opportunities for delegate questions and comments
- A copy of the slides will be made available after the course, along with further materials
This course will be focused on interventions in literacy and maths. TAs play a pivotal role in delivering interventions. The course will help TAs to:
- Understand the key features needed for interventions to be successful in enabling students to achieve their best outcomes
- Recognise the challenges TAs may face delivering interventions in their own settings and think through how these may be mitigated
- Prepare for delivering interventions
- Build a toolkit of strategies to support with pupil motivation in small group and 1:1 interventions
- Understand which practical materials could help them in delivery of interventions
- Recognise how they can support bridging of learning from interventions into the classroom
According to the Education Endowment Foundation, the evidence is clear: effective deployment of TAs can have positive impacts on pupil progress, behaviour and reduce teacher workload. However, research shows that too often TAs feel they lack training and are underprepared for their role which leads to a range of negative outcomes.
Crucially, when TAs work in
structured settings with high quality support and training, their impact on
attainment increases to approximately three to four additional months’ progress
(effect size 0.2’0.3). Therefore,
it is essential that schools unlock the potential of this group of professionals through high quality CPD.
Outcomes:
This half-day webinar will
up-skill Teaching Assistants, providing a practical toolkit of strategies
needed in classrooms, or in 1:1 & small group support. It will also be
useful to SENDCos and other school leaders seeking to maximise the potential of
TAs in their settings.
Who is this course for?
This course is primarily for TAs. SENCOs, subject leaders and school leaders would also benefit.
