Leading Literacy for Impact: Transforming Whole-School Literacy through Effective Leadership
This course will be online:-
- Raj is presenting via webcam, accompanied by slides and activities
- Opportunities for delegate questions and comments
- A copy of the slides will be made available after the course, along with further materials
This is a one day course split over two days - 4pm to 6.30pm on both days.
This dynamic two-part course provides leaders and teachers with the tools, strategies, and insights needed to lead literacy effectively across secondary schools — fully aligned with the new Ofsted Literacy Toolkit and Education Inspection Framework (EIF).
Drawing on the transformational literacy journey at Lordswood Boys’ School, Raj Kang will demonstrate how effective literacy leadership can raise outcomes, close vocabulary gaps, and inspire a reading culture that fosters confidence, curiosity, and academic excellence.
Delegates will explore the principles of literacy leadership through the lenses of intent, implementation, and impact, and gain practical approaches that can be applied immediately in classrooms and across departments.
In this course, delegates will consider:
- Explore what characterises a highly effective whole-school literacy strategy.
- Understand Ofsted’s current expectations around literacy and how to evidence impact during inspection.
- Learn how to engage subject specialists and non-teaching staff in building a shared literacy culture.
- Develop a consistent approach to reading, writing, and oracy across the curriculum.
- Use reading age data and diagnostic tools to track progress and target intervention effectively.
- Discover approaches to strengthen spelling, vocabulary, and disciplinary literacy for all learners.
- Explore strategies to build a reading for pleasure ethos and nurture pupil literacy leadership.
- Learn how to evaluate literacy provision through the EIF “deep dive” process and measure real impact.
- Share best practice and create a clear plan for embedding literacy within your school’s improvement priorities.
Additional third course session 9:15am to 3:00pm (with 45 min lunch)

Feedback from teachers on this course
Amazing! This is the second time I have seen Raj speak and she did not disappoint. She is incredible! Thanks so much.
Fantastic suggestions and tips. Very practical strategies that can be implemented across all different types of schools.
I thoroughly enjoyed this course. Raj clearly knows her stuff and the literacy she has shared with us was very valuable. I will be feeding back to my SLT next week.
Raj has chosen the course content so carefully. The activities/suggestions are all completely realistic and trialled. The discussions in the break out rooms were informative and friendly, I felt completely safe talking about issues regarding my school's literacy programme without fear of judgement. FANTASTIC.
Absolutely loved the course, especially being new to post of whole school Literacy and Interventions. I would really like to be able to keep in touch and possibly visit your school.
