Helping students succeed in the new Computer Science GCSE - Teacher CPD

With the release of the new GCSE specifications for Computer Science comes a new approach to assessment and a raising of the bar for subject knowledge. How can teachers best prepare students for this new CS agenda?

This one-day course will analyze the new GCSE criteria and explore the new GCSE specifications and their implications for planning and teaching at KS3-4. You will investigate how to nurture confident and competent learners from KS3 and throughout KS4 in readiness for the new GCSE.

What will this CPD course for teachers cover?

  • Computing without computers: how to use unplugged activities to engage students in the classroom. Learn how to transition unplugged concepts with plugged concepts such as programming and data representation
  • Planning for progression: identify approaches to strengthen content at KS3 to prepare students for the new challenges offered
  • Collaborative working: interactively explore collaborative approaches to concepts such as programming to develop teamwork in your classroom
  • Developing independence: cut back on the forest of hands-up with approaches to develop inner-thinking and resilience within your students
  • Adding context: develop plans to merge engaging content, contextualised to current Computer Science trends
  • Where are the girls: learn how to engage girls in Computer Science and how to significantly increase uptake of GCSE Computing by girls
  • So much choice: experience a range of free software to enhance computational thinking in the classroom

With the change just around the corner, the development of a progressive and creative approach to teaching and learning GCSE Computer Science is required to get the best out of your students.
