Finance Explained : strategic financial planning in schools

The 'Finance Explained' course is a whole day workshop, immersing you in the world of school finance.

Starting with an explanation of how the school funding system works, you will learn about the role played by national and local government and by your colleagues locally, and how you can influence the outcome for your school.

Having cut through all the jargon, the workshop will then address management of the school budget and strategic financial planning, including :

  • how to bring curriculum decisions and budget planning together
  • managing financial risk
  • increasing cost-effectiveness and efficiency.

For those who already carry the full responsibility for the school budget, the day will be a refresher that will help give you the security that you are not missing anything.

If you are a member of the school senior leadership team and want to take more responsibility, support the head and business manager and/or develop your skills and experience for your next role, the day will be an eye-opener and all-round awareness session that will be invaluable to you as your school plans next years budget over the coming months.

This course is for:

  • Senior Leaders or aspiring leaders of Primary and Secondary Schools.

Many thanks for a very informative day, looking at things from a slightly different perspective. It has been extremely useful.
Fantastic course. Your enthusiasm made it very engaging and informative.
Thank you! I’ll certainly be able to ask the right questions now of Schools Forum. I liked the honesty, practical support and commitment to ensure that financial planning is linked to ‘children’s learning’ and IMPACT.
This was a useful reminder of the funding streams coming into schools, and the strategic issues that underpin school leadership.
