Raising the grade at GCSE Art & Design

All schools are under enormous pressure to improve their GCSE grades and maximise the potential of every student. This CPD course for teachers considers how best to plan and deliver lessons which embrace the new GCSE specification for Art and Design and achieve enhanced results.

School Leaders and OFSTED are constantly demanding greater and greater pupil progress, while most art departments are trying to understand new whole school assessment strategies that often seem counter-intuitive to good progress in art.

With these pressures in mind, teachers of art and subject leaders need to ensure they are working effectively and efficiently, to improve outcomes to the highest levels possible in order to get the maximum results at GCSE.

This course aims to show you how you can achieve that goal, help you plan new, exciting schemes of work, raise standards, ensure that you are on course and up-to-date, familiarise yourself with new assessment practice and acquire valuable tips and strategies on creating more dynamic, engaged pupils who are more motivated and in control of their own learning.

This course is for:

  • Secondary Teachers of Art and Design
  • Heads of Art and Design and curriculum leaders

What will the course enable me to do?

  • Plan inclusive lessons that excite and stimulate every student.
  • Develop practical strategies for improving GCSE grades for every cohort.
  • Learn content-driven art techniques using metacognition and independent learning strategies in a scaffolded framework.
  • Get a clear picture of what OFSTED say makes for outstanding teaching & learning in art.
  • Acquire classroom-based, manageable assessment techniques that give pupils a clear understanding of how they might progress and improve.
