New topics and skills for AS and A-Level Geography

The new AS and A-Levels for Geography are now confirmed, and Awarding Bodies have prepared their new specifications for first teaching in September 2016. With the new format not only are there revised core topics, but there is also a new independent investigation for A-level. These changes present both opportunities and challenges with regard to new content, the increased emphasis on quantification skills as well as changes in the assessment objectives (AOs).

Come and explore how to nurture confident and competent learners at the start of these new-style AS and A-levels. In this one-day course suitable for all Awarding Bodies David will investigate particularly:

  • the real meaning of the new KS5 criteria for geography and what it means in terms of assessment
  • the full implications of the new independent investigation, including AS and A-level models of delivery
  • how to develop greater subject expertise using a greater variety of resources beyond the textbook
  • how to develop mathematical skills in geography from an early stage in the course
  • an exploration of the new core physical and human topics, together with the specialised concepts
  • how to prepare a range of students for more evaluative and synthesis-style questions

Having embarked on either a new AS or A-level (or combination of the two) creating a strong springboard for post-16 learning and examination success cannot be delayed. This course will help delegates to take a critical look beyond the information provided from the Awarding Bodies and to reflect on how to nurture the best outcomes for both learners and the department.

Feedback from teachers on David’s course

One of the most informative courses I have been on. I really valued the insight and expertise of the presenter.
A great day with lots of examples that can be taken away and used in school.
An incredibly informing day which certainly opened my mind to the way we teach our subject. It will be a challenge, but actually a very refreshing challenge!

Cost: £145 per delegate which includes lunch and resources; £199 for 2 teachers from the same school.
